Volume 18, Number 1
It was a different world 45 years ago, way back in 1977. Jimmy Carter was elected President, the Atari 2600 and the first Apple II computer debuted, and the MRI scanner became a lifesaving reality. Egypt’s Anwar Sadat made a historic visit to Israel in the pursuit of peace, the Trans-Alaskan Oil pipeline let the black gold flow, the Torrijos-Carter Treaties mandated the transition of the Panama Canal, French was adapted as the official language of Quebec and 25th Jubilee celebrations were held for Queen Elizabeth II. As SNL put it, Generalissimo Francisco Franco was still dead, but the first elections since his passing were held in Spain.
In 1977, the US population hit 216 million. In sports, Seattle Slew won the Triple Crown of Racing, and the NY Yankees won the MLB World Series over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The groundbreaking TV series Roots premiered, Saturday Night Fever danced into movie theaters, we howled our way through Annie Hall, and Star Wars materialized from a galaxy far, far away. In 1977, the Presidential Medal of Freedom was awarded posthumously to the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., and Voyager I and Voyager II were launched to explore the outer solar system. Jaime Pressley entered the world and Elvis Presley left it…and PMG was founded in a sunny, 3-room apartment in Locust Valley, New York, USA.
With sincerest gratitude to the clients, supporters, vendors and colleagues who helped Progressive Marketing Group succeed for the past 45 years…Thank You!
