April 25th is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – a day when the community is asked to safely dispose of their unneeded and expired prescription medication at local police departments and organized events.
Even though Drug Take Back Programs have been postponed due to COVID-19, there are other steps you can implement in your home with expired and unneeded medication.
Take extra care to secure and monitor prescription drugs in your home during this time.
- Secure medication by hiding it or locking it up – don’t keep it in a medicine cabinet.
- Monitor quantities, dosages and refills of all drugs and take inventory regularly. Use this handy inventory card.
- Discuss the dangers of misusing prescription and over-the-counter drugs with your family, especially teens and young adults.
