Everyone loves a good beach day, right?! Being that we live on an island it’s no wonder we are celebrating National Beach Day, today, August 30. Whether you love going to Robert Moses, Long Beach, Smith Point, Cupsogue, Ditch Plains, or any of the many beaches Long Island has to offer, there are a number of activities you can do to celebrate.
You can surf, bring a boogie board or take a dip in the water…build a sand castle, or play some games like volleyball, spikeball, kan jam and frisbee…catch a sunrise or sunset, read a relaxing book or magazine…and, our personal favorite, help preserve our beaches.
The easiest way to preserve our beaches is to ensure that whatever you bring onto the beach you take with you when you leave. Also, if you see a piece of litter or garbage that isn’t yours, ‘be the change’ and pick it up. You might also be interested in local organizations that host clean-up events, such as Surfrider Foundation. Find your local Long Island chapter here: https://www.surfrider.org/chapters.
Whichever way you decide to celebrate, get out there, enjoy and #LoveWhereYouLive.
